Tapers Notes:
George Benson hasn't toured out here for a while and is used to playing out large,
sold out venues, so when his presence at this 500 seat venue was announced,
I jumped all over it. The set list is almost exclusively from his first four
1976-1980 Warner Brothers Records. He knew exactly what is his best work was
(Tommy LiPuma produced them) and delivered.
This band was super tight, well rehearsed, and basically poured out musical hits
without a break for an hour and a half. Most noticeably, I give kudos to Stanley
Banks on bass, who has been with Benson for thirty some years, and David Garfield
who, for you fusion fans, was one of the founders of LA's Los Lobotomies, a Toto-based
fusion band which played at the Baked Potato for a couple years on Monday Jam night.
Finally, Benson's new CD, "Guitar Man" will be released October 4. Buried in the files
is some banter with a link to a FREE copy of the CD. But you have to download the
show.
