George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic - Live at the HiFi (Sydney, Australia)
March 8, 2013

Source/Lineage: Core Sounds Cardioids (pointed towards stage to minimise crowd noise) -> Sony PCM-M10 (mic-in, 48kHz 24 bit, downsampled to 44.1/16 for your CD burning pleasure) -> Soundforge 10.0b w/Izotope Ozone 5 Mastering Plugin -> FLAC Level 8

Recorded, mastered and processed by: Yours truly ... Starclassic.

Location: Dancefloor, back row centre and constantly battling with tall bastards wanting to stand 20cm away from me.

Notes:
I love me some good funk and while I'm not familiar with all of George Clinton's catalogue, this was a hell of a show. Two and a half hours of solid funk with the only downside being how long they were dragging out the endings to some of their songs. It was almost killing the mood for me but that's just me.

What impressed me most though was the fact we have a 72 year old funkster still funkin' it up with the same heart and soul as the good old days. What a talent. Not to take away from the rest of his 22 piece band, with particular mention of Mary Griffin. Wow, aside from her boobs almost popping out of her outfit while she was bouncing around (which would have been fantastic!), that voice was sweet, sultry and simply real. I've mentioned it before how much of a sucker I am for an awesome female vocalist and she definitely sucked me in.

The sound guy, as usual with this venue, was a moron with his ears painted on. Bass was rattling my head and generally untamed, midrange was equally untamed, deafening (even with earplugs), top end was good on some instruments and essentially non-existent in the drum overhead mics and overall, the balance was absolute shit.

To make matters worse, the gig seemed to have a minimum height requirement and I did not meet it. Mind you, I'm 5'11" tall so you can imagine me essentially surrounded by the Himalayas. Thankfully I didn't need to sway too much to see the band but many of them, no matter how much I moved backwards, would insist on moving backwards into me as well leaving me no less than 20cm. Why? It's not like they were dancing their way to me. I'd step back, they'd step back. What the fuck???!!!!!??? If any of you arseholes are reading this and were at that gig, please explain your total disregard for those standing around you.

Short of starting a fight, my usual passive-aggressive tricks to keep people at a reasonable distance from me and didn't affect the recording all that much, thankfully.

So, I did my best to polish this friggin' turd that we were presented with and I'm only releasing it on the request of a couple friends. Take a listen to the samples and be your own judge.

Once again, I'm really sorry for the overall quality of this recording but I've had my balls broken to get this recording out there for the masses regardless. So with all that in mind, hopefully you'll enjoy it anyway.

...and please, don't sell this bootleg, otherwise you're just plain old scum. That and George Clinton will sit on you.
