George Harrison

19 December 1974
New York, Madison Square Garden

Expressed New York (Bootleg by Beatles Master works)

Nice audience recording of show at New York's Madison Square Garden - the sound quality is good for an audience recording - clear and distortion-free, but compressed and lacking some presence. The show itself is as enjoyable as any from the tour - the order of the songs breaks it up nicely, and George is communicative, and jokes about the amount of marijuana in the audience, as the smoke wafts up onto the stage. This show marked Ravi Shankar's first appearance back on the tour after a minor heart attack, missing the shows from 4 December in Detroit. George's vocie has reovered somewhat, and this is the second-last night of the ill-favoured 1974 North American tour, with two more shows at the same venue the following day.

(Show identifiers - air horns blow in the audience twice before the show starts, GH says "Good evening New York" at the first lull in "Hari's on Tour" [01:37], and the taper's cassette gets mangled during "Tom Cat").
