Comments: This recording captures George Thorogood's opening set for John Fogerty in Milwaukee. I was ambivalent about attending this show even though the seats were in the front row; I saw him many times in the 1980s and 1990s and thought that given his age and his recent health challenges, his performance would be a big disappointment.
However, I'm very glad I went. Although Lonesome George looks and moves like a 74-year-old man, he still sounds fantastic and his playing is as good as it's ever been. This Elmore James-style of slide guitar will likely expire when he does, so I was happy to see him one more time. This was a "greatest hits" set (as far as George Thorogood ever had "hits") with a couple oddities thrown in; very appropriate for an opening set.
In terms of the recording, I am largely happy with the sound. I was standing in the front along the rail on the left side; unfortunately I didn't catch anything from the stage amps but did get pretty good fidelity from the overhead stack. Since I had nobody in front of me, there is very little crowd noise save for my neighbors to the right chatting a bit between songs. Oddly enough, this recording is a little better than the Fogerty headlining set (posted separately)
Recommended if you are a Thorogood/blues fan.
Check out the samples in the comments if in doubt.
