After Giant Sandworms, Giant Sand in all it's permutations, and Giant Giant Sand: now Giant Sand - not to mention the dozen sidelines - all in all it's just Howe Gelb and whoever is around to join in.
I didn't like the newest Giant Sand record (Heartbreak Pass) that much - so my expectations regarding the show were not too high - which is sometimes good, as low expectations are easy to surpass, in this case by a mile. Most of the new album got played and in fact I liked it much better live.
Howe was in excellent and very relaxed mood, lots of talk and interactions with the audience.
It was an extremely long show, the longest GS show I've seen in many years, and although the lineup and the music were much different from the shows 30 years ago there were some similarities making it a worthy anniversary show, the coming and going on stage, the different people contributing vocals or songs - not a boring minute.

The club was nicely filled but not packed, the audience well behaved, making it good recording conditions - but there are some shortcomings as well: there was a nasty buzz from one of the amplifiers, the levels between and during the songs were changing a lot, so I tried to adjust the recording levels accordingly, creating a some handling noises (where only one channel was effected I corrected that by the better one), had the levels way to high for Tumble & Tear, so the first 5 seconds are somewhat distorted and the md ran out during the instrumental outro of Texting Feist, mended that by a crossfade, it's very noticeable - but all in all it's a nice recording.
