Gil Evans, one of the most significant arrangers in jazz history, famous for collaborations with Miles Davis in "Miles Ahead", "Porgy and Bess", and "Sketches of Spain" started his large ensemble in 1970 in New York City and recorded unique albums such as "Svengali", "Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix" and " Priestess " started his Monday Night Orchestra in '70s.
In April 1983, after recording "British Orchestra" at Round House in London on March 14th & 15th, he started The Monday Night Orchestra at Sweet Basil and other jazz club like Brecker Brother's owned Seventh Avenue South and Lush Life in Greenwich Village, New York City.
This series of recordings starts on October 10th, 1983 at Seventh Avenue South and ends on August 13th, 1984 that was a week before "Live at Sweet Basil" official live recording.
