Here’s my first installment of the ACTUAL 2018 :) Baby steps!

Glen played two huge gigs over the weekend here in NYC, but I was all non-committal when those sales were happening, and my work schedule is a mess. Somehow, just a couple of weeks ago, I was checking Rough Trade web side and totally randomly stumbled upon this: https://www.roughtrade.com/events/glen-hansard-live
And I thought: “huh, sure I’ll buy a record (that was the price of the entry) and if life slams me too hard, well, I’ll miss it - at least I’ll have a record!”
Thankfully, this worked out great!! I came in 10 min before doors, the line was all around the perimeter of the store!! Somehow, as they started letting people in - we all fit neatly, did not even seem too dense… I stepped back, leaning on the SBD booth, but there were some uber tall dudes in front of me - that’s when I looked up and realized there is a sweet balcony right above the SBD up for grabs :) So I headed upstairs and parked right in the center of the balcony rail.

I am a sucker for these intimate acoustic shows. I mean, it’s just a different feel. Glen was so sweet, extremely thankful for.. well, sort of NYC weekend at large :) Of the 6 songs he played - 4 were of the new record - BETWEEN TWO SHORES - check it out! But his bare-bones piano rendition of Bird of Sorrow with a little emotional stumble in the middle really got me. REALLY.

The tape turned out great. Audience was wonderful! I basically removed a few coughs, and the bar tender setting the glass on the counter too loud - I mean, this is how quiet the crowd was!! I wish Glen hadn’t given up his encore to David Keenan - since his own set was so short to begin with - but it is a nice song! Thanks to ZH as usual for tuning this up.
