I shared this show a long time ago, but it was back in the days where I had only 20GB on my computer. Needless to say, I didn't keep my FLAC. However, this is a fresh rip of the exact same audio CDs. The reason I am doing it again is for us collectors to keep it in FLAC, and for the memory of Daevid burning. My old version never got re-seeded on any torrent site again, so I was unable to get what I made. There has been some shifts of song placement per disc, if one burns to audio, due to the removal of "filler" on CD2. That "filler" turned out to be Gong's first set in Portland, OR., in Mar. 1996. I may seed that later, but doing some looking for it's 2nd half, if it exists, before. Other than that, everything else is exactly the same. No editing of any sort.

In 2000, I was living in Eugene. There was a tapers club that met every Tuesday, where we were drink brews, trade, talk about newly appearing recordings by our favorite bands. It was the beginnings of CDR burning. I didn't have a burner, much less a computer, during that time. The group was mainly focused on Grateful Dead, but other bands were also traded. I had, at the time, some master soundboard tapes of various bands, and other very rare recordings so I had something to offer back. Enter D.E.! He asked if I was looking for anything. "Well, I doubt anyone has anything, but I am looking for Gong, or anything with Daevid Allen." He took me by surprise. "Tom, I can get you a recording of Gong playing WOW Hall from a few years ago. I know the guy who recorded it from the soundboard." I nearly spit out my beer at that. Gong played WOW Hall?! My favorite venue in Eugene, which is a tiny venue? Are playing this loud? No way!! How amazing that must have been! I missed it, as I wasn't living there then. And a uncirculated soundboard master? Oh yes, please! D.E. was true to his word. He came in the next week with two CDs, which he gave to me as a gift. They were labelled merely as "Gong - WOW Hall - 1997" Unlabeled otherwise, but the tracks were already made. There was no mention of the filler, later discovered. I lost touch with D.E. several years ago, but no less grateful than that day. So, if you are out there, feel free to shoot me an email. I have some gems for you.

The best source of Gong on the Web, Maclen, and his site, I was able pinpoint the date, and get the titles to a few mystery tracks before. I must give thanks to all his hard work on all things Canterbury! He's an amazing resource.

Anyways, there isn't much more to say. Just get your mushroom tea ready, and take that ride. Thank you, Daevid, you changed my life. I have had some of most uplifting loving cosmic feeling, with that wonderful curve ball of great humor. If life was like a Gong concert, and its fans, the world would be a better place. I swear to it.

As always, enjoy,
