show notes: this was an interesting gig for sure, as the night before I'd seen
the Mule in SF at the Fillmore, and ol' Chris Robinson came out with Warren
and Co. for a searing 2nd/3rd encore of "The Hunter" (that was in addition to
all the other guests Mule invited to SF). but CRob as a Mule guest the night
before could not have prepared my tender ears for this evenings proceedings.
it started with a "NO TAPING" HOB policy at the door (regardless of Mule's
wishes), so I went back to the car....to jam the deck under the ol scrote
(anyone wanna borrow my walkman? haha) and re-enter. so the first minute or
two may sound rough, as I re-entered right when Mule hit the stage.

a short 1st set (barely an hour, ?????) got my hackles and suspicions up a
bit that we may have 'more guests' ala SF in store. but when Black Crowe
Audley Freed came out and sat in on brutally heavy versions of "Mr. Big" and
"Simple Man", I knew we were in for a treat. but THEN, Audley leaves, and
Marc (Fucking) Ford comes out.....what blew my mind is that Audley was the
guy ***who replaced Marc in the Crowes!!! we then got an incredibly tender
"Presence Of The Lord" and boulder-to-the-melon "Cortez The Killer". then
they all left the stage. was the show over?

NO, instead of that being the end, a druck-as-fuck Jerry Cantrell comes out,
and Mule plays a solid "War Pigs", whereas a sloppy Jerry is dripping sloppy
riffs all over the place, you could tell he was fully erect to be onstage
with the powerful Mule, and you could also tell that he'd had a few too many
cocktails. oh well, the intentions were good and pure, and it made for a
great show for the ol' memory banks. the show in Vegas the next night was
CREEPY, more on that later....
