The theme was the old R&B style music show with R&B music for the
entire second set. Warren and the guys looked so cool, long skinny
ties, jackets like the Blues Brothers, but classy. Danny was
hilarious, a very funny guy to watch. He was like a take off on Sly
Stone. They played I've Been Loving You Too Long, Papa Has a Brand New
Bag - which was terrific - What is Hip, Down and Out in New York City
a few more but I go blank.
The Holloway Horns were four guys with various pieces of brass with
Ron on an alto and a tenor sax depending on the song. Jimmy V was the
MC, he played guitar and he played the keyboards on occasion. Both
Jimmy and Danny are multi-instrumentalists. Last night and tonight
Danny played the guitar. Last night for The End and tonight for Train
Kept A Rollin which ended the first set. The last song of the first
show of the new year was Soul Shine. A fitting closure to a great night.
I loved the go-go dancers. They were dressed in shiny latex type
material, one in blue and one in red. The blue dancer ended up with
all the balloons. They came down at midnight and were hit around the
room for quite a while. The blue dancer had on white go-go boots. The
whole audience was dancing to the music. Perhaps inspired by the women
on the stage, I thought everybody got a real good groove on.
The set design was very mod, with circles and boxes strung together
hanging from the ceiling, and in three dimensional shapes placed
throughout the stage. Some of the graphics included dose symbols which
were interesting against the linear shapes of the boxes and circles.
The use of color was interesting. Like the poster of the three day
event, an orangey brown that looked more like a soft toffee pretty
much predominated the majority of the set. There were loads of green
that looked almost like lime but without the edge, soft turquoise
blue, white and a festive purple, again soft like the hues faded
against the Southwestern sun.
I had a great time.
Angel, I second that...I TOO HAD A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the
go-go girls so much that when I perform with a band next (in two weeks), I'm
gonna do the go-go look onstage myself!!
