Taper notes:
Last night, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals performed a new song, "The Mad Mad River," which is about the devastating flooding effects that Tropical Storm Irene had on the small State of Vermont, and in particular the Mad River Valley town of Waitsfield, which is where Grace Potter grew up.
The concert was a benefit for Vermont flood relief and it was aired on local public television. I hope a DVD will circulate soon, as the entire show was outstanding.
However, the highlight (for me), was "The Mad Mad River," which I taped on my iPhone from the orchestra's third row. It was an emotional moment, as just about everyone in Vermont was either affected by Tropical Storm Irene or knows someone who was. After the band finished performing the new song, there was an extended and heartfelt standing ovation, and Grace and the other band members were visibly moved (including at least one to tears).
