TODD McBRIDE solo & with Granfaloon Bus
- January 23, 1998 - FZW, Dortmund, Germany
** Audience DAT-clone, MWM 0123 **
>> ! FUNNY ! & UNCIRCULATED - from Athens, GA - member of LA DI DA's & DASHBOARD SAVIORS <<

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Preliminary remark 2:

As far as I know NONE of this recording was ever used commercially.

This recording here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archive.
"MWM" started in the 70ies in South Germany with analog recording equipment,
and at least two of them are still recording sometimes (since the 90ies on DAT,
and, lazy as we are, since lately with small, handheld WAV-recorders on SD-cards).
The "MWM" startet as a project of friends sharing their hobbies together. But by
reason of jobs, partners and other interests the circle of all involved shrinked.

About this concert/the tour:

Autumn 1996 was the start of an interesting experiment. Two German record labels and their
booking agency teamed together and started the first "double-headliner tour" with Blue Rose
act The Dashboard Saviors and Glitterhouse band Go To Blazes - and those concerts had been
very successful. The idea was simple: both bands played 70 to 90 minutes, and they alternated
the order of their appearance each night. A similar concept was used a few months later for
the "THE DESERT ROCKS"-tour 1997 with Rich Hopkins and the Luminarios and Granfaloon Bus in
January/February, and the same year during April with Chris Burroughs and Neal Casal.

The Dashboard Saviors separated early 1997, and Todd took the chance to record his solo-album
"Sketchy", again released by Blue Rose. Todd came back to Europe in December 1997 to promote
his album, this time as support act for Granfaloon Bus on their second big German tour 97/98...

All five musicians had lots of fun, they celebrated Christmas and New Years Eve together, and
soon there was a new band project, "Senior Deutschmark", 3/4th of Granfaloon Bus backing up
Todd after a few songs solo, and Todd came during the "headliner"-shows to help them with some
backing vocals, and sang lead vocals usually on one or two coversongs - BUT NOT THIS NIGHT...

About the recording:

THIS IS A MUST-HAVE ! DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST EVER EXISTING TAPES ;-)

Including all those things an EXCELLENT audiencetape should have:

- an band in their prime, full of emotions (and a little booze)...
- the bassplayer used a musical saw to enrich a song (track #02.)
- the drummer offered his skills on guitar on one song (track #14.)
- a rare recording of an (at least to me) unknown song "?down, down, down?" (track #11.)
- a rare recording of an (at least to me) unknown song "?falling out of my own tree?" (track #18.)
- a crowded room full of enthusiastic people...and a nearly perfect taping position...
- the best possible recording equipment you can afford for money...
- a considerate friend, taking care of the gear and the on-off switch (track #20.)

SOUNDS GREAT ? YEAH, IT'S REALLY AWESOME.......BUT.......SADLY.....

IT's also including all those things an EXCELLENT audiencetape should NOT have:

- missing nearly half of the first song of the show (reason ?)
- the "good friend" from the Todd McBride set talks about automobiles (mainly tracks #06. & #07.)
- a nervous finger on the on-off switch causing some troubles:
- missing the last 40 seconds of track #07.
- missing the first 130 seconds of track #08.

My dear friend Frizze was not able to attend this concert (but he did
the sound and the boardrecording the next night...it's here on DIME),
so he asked his buddy RO. And this buddy did a really fine job, the only
thing he should have done: KICKING his "good friend's" butt...HARD...
(plus maybe start the machine a bit earlier...not talking about the on-off switch...).

And if the informations are correct,
RO just had his decadal birthday this
month - so belated "Happy Birthday" !

This torrent here is from Frizze's 1st DAT-clone of the master...

FOR THE FIRST TIME OUT OF OUR ARCHIVE,

My dear buddy Ken TheCommish usually writes (and hey, he's damn right):
If you decide to download this show, won't you please consider posting a comment
on the show's board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer
to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run...

You know, our friend Dave T says: "There's always more to come..."
And i'll promise you to keep MY tapes coming...
