Green Day are on what might be their biggest undertaking in their career -
a dual anniversary celebratory world tour while also supporting a new album at
the same time! Sounds crazy, right? Well, 2 album performances and 37 songs
later at just over 2 hours and "The Saviors Tour" was glorious. Every minute.
I'm not kidding when I say this was one of the best stadium concerts I've ever
seen. I grew up with 1994's "Dookie", so getting to hear that was very special
for me. Then seeing them play a middle set of 6 songs and then returning
with 2004's "American Idiot" was icing on a cake that really didn't need it!
Then, we got a short encore! This show had everything! If you're a Green Day
fan and you're skipping this tour, you're making a HUGE mistake! This was
only my 2nd GD show and I'm super glad I did not pass it up. Now! On to how
the recording went! I waited this one out and tickets dropped significantly
the week of. There were still a bunch of seats available on the field and
in the stadium. It did not sell as well as the Foo show did a month before.
The pit tickets (which were still available), unfortunately, did not get
discounted. Therefore, I decided to record from the far left of the field
directly in front of the left side hanging PA. More than half of FLD1 was
still for sale at showtime, so I did not have too many loud annoying rude
neighbors like I would have in the pit. Plus, I got in for less than half
of face value with no fees! My view was not the greatest, but the sound was
superb (well, for a stadium). I mainly watched the large video screen and
still very much enjoyed the show. I did spend some time on this in RX7
removing some screams and yells (mostly from behind me) & some unnecessary
clapping at times. All of the loud pyrotechnic booms were hard limited to
match the volume of the music. I actually hopped a row (from V to U) to get
away from a clapper during "Emenius Sleepus". Hey, ya do what you've got to
do! The rear crowd noise was more manageable from that point on. I really
loved how the omnis sounded when I taped the Foos from the field and I'm
really glad I used them here. Only complaint? Too many "heeey - ohhh's"!
The Linda Lindas, Rancid and The Smashing Pumpkins were also on the bill.
(only TSP were recorded).
