Grin - Sept. or Oct. 1971 @ Cole Student Activities Building, University of Maryland, College Park, MD (aka "Cole Field House).

Same source tapes as previous upload. Cassette (no Dolby) to PC via Soundforge with no EQ or volume alteration (because of harsh high end I wanted recipients to know that it's not me overloading it). Direct dupe.

Stereo audience tape (not a WOWI broadcast). Not wonderful sound...it has it's annoying problems, but boy is it interesting to hear Nils play on this one! Great stuff! Sound improves a little later on. Lotsa dead time trying to sort out monitors and re-tuning because the band can't hear each other.

I won't go into all the details about how it all fell together, but I'm sure of everything now except exact day. Enjoy...you want the music...not my detectives notes:

Track List:

01 - announcer ("Your first concert..."[of the school year], just as east2west said, and "presented by the Student Union Board at University of Maryland")
02 - White Lies

04 - Moon Tears (very fast version)
05 - If I Were A Song
06 - Going Back
07 - Celebration (or "Thunderbird"?)
08 - End Unkind
09 - announcer ("15 minutes for James Gang to be ready", just as east2west had said!)

40 minutes

These two posts, and info on the tape itself, allowed me to determine date and location. I thank you both...this is what the forums are all about.

I don't know how much, if anything, this will add to the discussion... but WOWI were the call letters of a very hip FM station from the Hampton Roads, VA area in the early 70s. And the Hampton Roads area is sometimes referred to as "The Peninsula".

So, a description of "WOWI, The Peninsula, Hampton, VA" makes a lot of sense, but the addition of "Univ Of Maryland" I'm guessing is in error...

Hey Gangway - you mention the 1971 Grin show at Univ. of Maryland. They played Cole Field House and opened for James Gang if my memory is correct. It was my first rock concert - I think it was during the first week of classes or close to that anyway.

James Gang were "supposedly" in Toronto in October 1971, and I believe that it was really in September 71. Sorting out the date for this show, allowed me to understand the odd labeling method used by my source on his song/date list to me. The previous torrent is almost certainly May 1969!!
