The Grace Emily is a tiny little venue which features great sound , but a crazily irregular shaped performance area that gets wider up the back then it is near the stage.One either stands at the back or the sides or depending on the whims of the audience , you can try to sit down right at the front, this is uncomfortable as there are about 4 seats in the entire venue and they are situated up the back. They need to invest in some seating for these sorts of shows. There were about 100 folks there I guess , a quiet and respectful audience who got into the dark alt country tales of this wonderful duo.

The Handsome Family , Brett and Rennie Sparks , are regular visitors to the Grace Emily, this time they brought along a drummer to spice up things and they delivered the usual weird and wonderful set full of songs about the dangers of being hypnotised by Octopi,living with Owls that steal pills and being bewitched into dancing by old women who live in the deep forests. Brett's voice was, as usual, incredible, he can be tender, bellowing and barely audible all in the space of one verse. Rennie on bass , banjo and vocals was her charming and faintly Morticia Addams like self, entertaining us all with a variety of off the wall and zany anecdotes . Her main subject this time round was her speculating about what she would encounter if she visited a Koala at the local wildlife park called Hazel- most amusing.
