HAWKWIND - 1980-07-13 London Lyceum Ballroom

VG audience recording.

(low gen tape) > WAV > Soundforge (fade in track 1./ fade out track 14 & fade tape flip after track 9) > CD Wave (track splitting) > FLAC (level 8 on sector boundaries)

The first of two 'all-day' events previewing songs from 'Levitation'- the second on the 20th. If I remember rightly support was Nik Turner's ICU, along with Lightning Raiders, Androids of Mu and 'Out On Blue Six'-
glam punks who had a lot of beer cans in their direction (oh well).

Notable at the time for Lemmy turning up and (nearly) getting as much attention as the band - but not playing, and now as the last but one gig with Simon King.

setlist:

1. Intro
2. Shot Down In The Night
3. Motorway City
4. Spirit Of The Age
5. Urban Guerilla
6. Prelude
7. Who's Gonna Win The War
8. World Of Tiers
9. Dust Of Time (tape flip)
10. Space Chase
11. fade < Lighthouse
12. Brainstorm
13. Master Of The Universe
encore
14. Silver Machine / Levitation

My Notes

Ok so this is another one I received in a postal trade from way back and again it's the
first time I've ever shared this outside of snailmail trading so there's a good chance many of you may not have it.

What can I say about this show other than wow its a long time since I've played this show and its
absolutely fantastic.

The taper has done a fantastic job here. They must have been position close to the mixing desk and have had great recording equipment for the day.

The vocals are really up front in the mix, and the band have a real depth to the sound.

If there is a slight caveat it does have a little bit of that bootleggy feel to it with a bit of booming in the sound. Thats probably down to the acoustics of the venue, but hey
I'm trying to be as honest as I can about the sound quality. Having said all that the only way this could be bettered is with a soundboard release.

So easily a 9/10 or EX+ it really is an enjoyable listening experience.

As always share freely but NEVER sell. Don't covert to lossy unless for personal use.

Lets remember Hawkwind are a current active touring band:

So support them by going to gigs, buying their cd's and merchandise etc. I will be there in Manchester to watch them in September 2021 and I'll be buying their new LP Somnia.

Check out their official website here: http://www.hawkwindmuseum.co.uk

Also check here for the bands current trading/recording policy: http://www.hawkwindmuseum.co.uk/trading%20rules.htm and this recording is allowed by the band under those rules.

You can also find detailed info on their re-issue back catologue here: http://cherryred.co.uk/atomhenge/main.htm

Lets keep those motors running.

Cheers
