"During the Summer of 1984 at the Stonehenge Free Festival, Dave made a rare appearance on stage with musicians other than those in Hawkwind.
Following Hawkwind's two performances of the 'Earth Ritual', Dave joined Jenny Chapman, Gypsy Steve and Penny for an hour long set that included some of Jenny's songs plus a few Hawkwind numbers. Nik Turner, Alan Davey and Danny Thompson formed the rest of the band that played as 'Snorkwind' on the stage in the Tibetan Tent."

David from Chemical Alice wrote this to me …

"Ah! I happen to have a strong connection with that HW set. HWs gear had gone off in the van and they needed to borrow some, started off as a guitar amp (mine) then the list grew to drum kit (our drummer Ron's), bass amp (ours again) and finally our keyboard player Richard Sanderson joined HW for their set sitting on the floor off stage left. You can clearly see my Space Echo and Lab Series amp in one of the pics and also Ron's orangey gold drum kit. Harvey wasn't there, that pic of him is from the main stage. Hawkwind also had another electric guitarist off to stage right who you can hear on the sample, I think he was a Tibetan type, I know he had a very nice Overwater guitar which I hadn't seen before.

You will see that they were actually billed on the board as 'Hawkwimp' and that appearing after them are Alice (us) and the Ozrics, so you could say that Hawkwind were our support band for one night only It was light by the time we finished and I think the Tibetans did a set after us with our drummer Ron playing with them. The Ozric's came on later in the morning which may well have been the 23rd (my birthday!) Wonderful daze!"
