comments:
This is the complete show, no cuts for flips (if you can notice the flips, it's not easy here)
A very interesting version of Herbie, in an intimate club setting, some jazz, some funk, some
rhythm and blues, their current hit at this time "Stars in your Eyes" is a romantic poppy ballad.
This was when Herbie was playing alot with the keyboard worn like a guitar, rather than his more
conventional piano/ organ and synths. When I saw this show I didn't really know what to make of some
of the music, expecting something between his jazz with Ron Carter, George Benson and Jack DeJohnette,
(which is very nice) and the Headhunters band of the mid-70's (also quite good, I think they wrote hang up...),
upon hearing this again it was a solid tight performance and the sound is better than I had remembered.
It helps that this tape has probably only been played 2 or 3 times since I made it, so it still sounds crisp,
no dropouts, hiss or problems at all. This was not exactly my favorite era for Hancock music, but most of
this sounds like good Herbie Hancock and should be of interest to many. I had completely forgotten who the
drummer is in this show, and Mouzon sounds very good here. That's reason enough to spike my interest in
remastering this and seeding it for the 1st time ever. there are a couple of other players mentioned in the
"additional" band intros of track 8, I think they might only play in part of the show. For some reason I
thought this was the "Rockit Band" (maybe it is) but it is introduced as the "Monster Band". It is a pretty
good band of players and they got an enthusiastic response. Unless someone else also got a tape of this and
upped it, you have probably never heard this recording. Only traded to a couple of folks on tape, and the
show was far from sold out (much to my surprise) now for the 1st time, it's all yours from the same WAV
files my CD copy of this comes from. That's what 3 step torrents are for. I think this is a no Dolby
recording, even though the tape says it is. Tapes can be recorded on, but they can't talk. The best
place to break for burning to disc is after track 4.
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
