::: Primo stereo SBD. Check samples for "F*ck me, they rock - even at this late date!" verification.
::: Warts: Few very lite LP pops missed during repairs (or apparent on Mk2 after NR). 1st 8secs of talk/intro slightly muffled/tape wow.
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is the Mk2 version, with noise reduction. The Mk1 version without noise reduction can be found elsewhere.
::: BBC Transcription Services CN 2015/S issued 1974 week 13, IC0064.2. Tempest In Concert (A-side 1973-06-02 Golders Green Hippodrome) & Hookfoot In Concert (B-side).
::: Transcription disc was Tempest&Hookfot, but Renaissance preceeded Hookfoot for actual concert broadcast 1974-01-12.
::: Not 100% sure 1974-01-12 date is the real concert date & not just the 1st broadcast date. Were they usually live brodcasts?
::: (*) "Memphis 1972" 1990 SPM CD (supposedly issued with band permission) titled this "Taxman". Intro'd here as "I Don't Need".
::: A cool selection of songs, 1 from each of their 4 major label LPs & 1 that didn't appear 'til 1990.
::: Dec.'73 & Jan.'74 UK tour promoting "Roaring" (due out in UK 'later in the month' & their last official LP before disbanding).
::: Album cover date is 1973 but apparently the it hit the racks late January 1974.
::: Anyone got Hookfoot 1972-04-15 BBC1 In Concert (broadcast with Vinegar Joe)?
::: This seems to be the first Hookfoot on DIME. Anyone have other unissued material?

Recording Information ::: BBC stereo soundboard transcription disc -> 1st generation Maxell SXII-90 high bias cassette, Dolby B on. (VERY low & uneven levels & marked "no Dolby", but clearly MUST have been Dolby B encoded - FAR too bright without it).

Playback 2015-04-19 ::: 1st generation stereo Maxell SXII-90 high bias cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized -> Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) -> computer -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2015-06-06.

Line-up ::: Caleb Quaye - lead electric guitar, vocals // Ian Duck - rhythm electric guitar, harmonica, vocals // Fred Gandy - electric bass // Roger Pope - drums.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 139 ::: Thanks to the original taper & trader, & to DIMER zubbid for a bit of research assistance! ::: Corrections welcome ::: One of my fave bands in high school & likewise for one of my closest friends, 'Ptomaine' Thomas. While perhaps best known as backing musicians for Elton John on most of his DJM material, they made some excellent records, of which I particularly enjoy the self-titled "Hookfoot" & "Communication". Many of you have MANY recordings with some of these guys, particularly Caleb Quaye, a prolific studio musician who plays on 100s of LPs. No recollection which fine taper laid this on me, tho' he was also into Help Yourself & Ten Years After, so he musta been a decent sorta bloke. The only unfortunate thing was he recorded with super-low levels which left a bit o' hiss & his turntable had some distinct hum. Fortunately, the fact his deck was also running quite offspeed was easily rectified in the analog realm. Ptolemaic Terrascope Phil carried Hookfoot's torch for many years in print. Does anyone have any idea what the story is with the Wikipedia discography entry for a 1970 first album by the band titled "Turn the Radio On"? I can't find ANY other info on the recording' existance. Is it maybe the same as "A Piece Of Pye" (previously unissued 1969 recording) issued in Japan in 2010 on Air Mail Archive? At any rate, dig these live sounds - a class act. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
