Personally, this is my favorite N'Awlins Brass Band these days.

And if you want a little more about the Hot 8 Brass Band, here's a little biography and a link:

To a native like me, New Orleans often can seem like another world to our visitors. You can go to any other city in the country and they feel like variations on a theme, but then there's only one city with Sunday second-lines, ice-cold $2 Heinekens sold off of grocery carts, and them brass bands holding it all together. In N’Awlins, brass band music is hip-hop, it's party music, it's on the radio, it's for dancing, it’s pop music, it’s soul music and it’s jazz. I can't think of another style of music that's so unique and so addictive yet has remained so confined within its geographical borders.

The Hot 8 Brass Band aren't the most well-known brass band, but they're quite possibly the best, especially the drummers. They have been together for 10 years now. The Hot 8 Brass band was formed in 1995 by the merging of two talented groups, the Looney Tunes and the High Steppers. There are currently nine men in the Hot 8, playing New Orleans brass band music in the traditional style, with original talent and incredibly innovative flourishes.

The members of the Hot 8 were all born and raised in New Orleans; many of them began playing together in High School, one is even a Batiste, a 4th generation member of one of the city’s premier musical families. This new young band follows in the footsteps of groups such as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Treme Brass Band, and the Rebirth Brass Band. Their talent and dedication are making them the pride of New Orleans.

The Hot 8 Brass Band has toured in Japan, Italy, France, Spain, Finland, England, and Sardinia. They play regularly at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival ("Jazz Fest"), the 102.9 FM Old School in The Park concerts, the Tipitina's Foundation Instruments A Comin' benefits, and have played in the Zulu Parade, San Antonio Zulu Association Festival, the City of New Orleans New Year's Celebration and Mo' Fest, Jollie's in Wisconsin, Milwaukee Brew house (Wisconsin),Milwaukee Street Festival, Coyote Ugly in Dallas TX, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, and were the first brass band to appear in a major music video (Mr. Marcello & Master P.)

They haven’t been without their share of tragedy, and for anyone curious about the comments on this recording about the New Orleans Police Department murder of their trombonist, Joe Williams, here’s a biography of Joe and a link.

Joseph "Shotgun Joe" Williams was born in New Orleans in 1982, and learned to play by ear as a child. He played both drums and trombone in church. Joe joined the Hot 8 in 1996, while still in high school. His influences include Jacob Johnson, Herlin Riley, and Wynton Marsalis. Joe was a 4th generation musician, a member of New Orleans' Lastie family. He was shot down in the street on August 3, 2004.
