Anonymous Collection Cassette #263 features the earliest circulating tape of a Hot Rize
performance I've seen...the band is captured at the First Annual Minnesota Bluegrass
Festival, People's Center, Minneapolis, MN, May 19-21, 1978, during their first year of
existence. One can hear the band developing their stage presence and unique personas-Tim
O'Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster, and Charles Sawtelle refer to themselves as Howdy
Skies, Wyoming Dave, Delbert McCumbers, and Buddy Storm, rather than their Red Knuckles &
The Trailblazers nicknames they came up with later-Red Knuckles, Waldo Otto, Wendell
Mercantile, and Slade. This tape is a real gem; show one has better fidelity than show
two, but you won't care if you're a Hot Rize fan.
