TRANSFER/EDITING NOTES:
The source recording for this remaster is the commercial bootleg "On Stage" on the Midas Touch label. In the info file of the source, it is listed as being a soundboard recording which, quite likely it originated as, or since it was a live in studio recording made by the BBC intended for radio broadcast, it could very well have originated as a radio station reel or preFM recording. Nonetheless, whether this recording is actually taken from a pre-broadcast soundboard or preFM source is debatable since there is a large amount of hiss and surface noise in varying degrees throughout the recording as well as an abundance of low end material and a fairly limited frequency response. This coincides with the possibility of the source material actually being taken from an FM broadcast but there is no way to confirm this one way or another as far as I know.
Either way, there are certainly some generations between the original radio recording made by the BBC and the "On Stage" bootleg source.
My main objective in this remaster was to reduce the amount of noise/hiss and attempt to restore some of the lost elements of the frequency spectrum that probably occurred due to tape transfers and/or an FM source recording that was compressed for radio broadcast. I had to make these adjustments on a track by track basis since the levels flucuated throughout the recording. In order to accomplish this I made a lot of very specific adjustments to the frequency spectrum to attenuate some of the boominess associated with the source recording as well as tame some of the high end frequencies that contained very little musical content and mostly just hiss and tape noise. No noise reduction was used to achieve this.
The second objective in this remaster was to eliminate some of the drop outs that occur throughout the recording and as is mentioned in the info of the source, is most severe on the second track.
I also took the liberty of removing some of the clicks and other anomalies that are more pronounced on the source.
There were also gaps at the end of each track and a very short section of audio at the very end of each track after the gaps. I eliminated the gaps to the best of my ability and moved the very short sections of audio after the gaps to the beginning of the next track where applicable. The transition between tracks is far from perfect but certainly less abrupt and obvious than before.
You will probably notice that there is still a fair amount of hiss and tape noise present on this remaster as eliminating too much noise would negatively affect the musical content of the recording.
I hope you enjoy this remastered version of the classic Humble Pie lineup!
