Notes:
It's been 12 years since I last saw Jethro Tull and/or Ian Anderson, so it has been a while. I found this to be an entertaining show, mostly because
seeing TAAB in its entirety was very special and something I had never experienced before (and TAAB2 was cool too). The musicians were all exceptional
and I thought that Ryan O'Donnell was a beneficial addition that allowed Ian to focus less on his voice and more on his musicianship, particularly
during TAAB. But I swear people in the crowd were yelling "Doane," so I get the impression some thought they were actually seeing Jethro Tull instead
of a Tull/solo Anderson band hybrid.
I was located on an aisle, so there is some noise and extremely minor phasing from when people would walk by on the steps. There is a bit of chatter
during the "intro" from latecomers finding their seats and there's a noisy zipper/chain purse in the beginning of "TAAB (Part 1)." There's also a lot
of singular clapping along throughout TAAB, but it's very brief when it happens. And there is a pop in "Shunt And Shuffle," but I believe it was in
the PA.
The problem with sitting in the back half of this 'venue' is that whenever someone talks, claps, coughs or sneezes, it gets amplified by the low ceiling.
For example, a clapper can be sitting an entire section away and you'll hear it as if they're sitting right next to you. I'm mentioning this because
there was a talking man way over to my left somewhere who can be heard in the background during "TAAB (Part 2)." But the far more immediate problem was
directly behind me: two women who never shut up. And it was obvious that everyone could hear them, based on all the heads turning to face my direction
to see who was causing all that racket. Fortunately, their talking is not as loud on this recording as they were at the show, but you'll hear their
chatter increase about 6 minutes into "TAAB (Part 2)." And about 3 minutes after that, you'll hear a woman ask them to be quiet (this other woman
actually came over from another section to talk to them). Reflective of the selfish nature of these talkers, I overheard them during the intermission
saying how amusing they found it that someone asked them to stop talking. But in an amazing stroke of luck, they both left at the break after getting
their chuckles in. I honestly think they didn't pay for their tickets based on how they talked all the way through the first set, let alone how they
left in the middle of it. Or else blowing $50 per ticket is pittance to them (they probably spent that in a couple of minutes on the smoke-filled casino
floor).
I didn't want to be annoying with my camera since no one else around me was taking photos. But at the encore, the man in front of me left the show, so
I was able to discretely take a lot of pics (that is why the majority of the pics I included are from "Locomotive Breath").
I amplified this but did nothing else to the recording, so be sure to turn it up.
Many thanks to G3 for the tickets.
