Total Time ::: 1:26:47
::: Middle o' de road & sorta loud AUD but not too bad. Check samples to evaluate or commence levitation.
::: Warts: Tape was in EXC shape. Fair amount of AUD noise. #7 high level distortion ~30 seconds near start. Idiot whistler cuts loose a few times. #13 starts a bit late & rough from tapeflip. Musta missed a few dullspots but fixed what I heard.
::: Best-ever transfer & first-ever digital transfer from the master.
Recording Information ::: Sony D-6 portable tape recorder, single Sennheiser 300 microphone with shotgun shell (mono y-jacked into both channels) -> master Maxell XLII-S 90 cassette, Dolby off.
Playback 2011-12-07 ::: master Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby off, azimuth & speed adjusted (pitched!) for individual recording, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL professional CD recorder -> CD-RW, no track splits -> computer -> EAC secure mode (logs made) -> wav files.
Remastering 2012-xx & 2014-05-xx ::: wav files -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, further -.45% speed fix with single pass after spectral analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2014-05-03.
Line-up ::: John Weldon "J.J." Cale - electric guitar, vocals // Christine Lakeland - electric guitar, vocals // Don Roscoe Joseph III aka "Rocky Frisco" - keyboards, vocals // Jimmy Karstein - congas, percussion // Bill Raffensperger, then Timothy Lee "Tim" Drummond - electric bass* // James Cruce - drums, percussion // James "Jimmy" L. Gordon - harmonica. (Sounds like the band changes bassists at some point during the show).
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
DimeTravel 020 ::: Thanks to the original taper, Lochner! ::: Corrections welcome ::: A very solid performance & we get a couple of songs I don't have too many live versions of, but particularly pleasing is "The Old Man & Me" from "Okie". One of Lochner's weaker taping attempts, but directly related to stealth recording in a packed bar with a lot of unusually rowdy people for a JJ Cale show - standing, dancing & drinking & partying. Still it packs a pretty solid listenable punch. I just spent some more hours with it & the music is sublime. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
