The lines marking the start and stop of the "Running On Empty" Tour
are somewhat blurred. Jackson began a tour on August 11, 1977 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater which could be considered the "unofficial" start of the "Running On Empty Tour" in that the "Running On Empty" LP was yet to be recorded. The opening night was similare in structure to the 1976 tour with the addition of a couple of songs that would eventually be recorded on the road for inclusion on the LP release. You can still find the opening night located here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=634815

Dime member 'Raoullopez' reached out to see if there was interest in mastering his 2nd generation tape of the closing night. Thanks to his generosity we are able to bookend the opening night of this leg of the tour. There was one benefit show after this in Columbia, SC for the "Palmetto Alliance" an anti-nuclear and consumer advocacy group but that show is not considered part of the official tour. By August Jackson was back on the road for a month or so of additional dates.

Closing nights are always interesting performances and range from a going through motions to get it over with to high energy affairs as the grand finale. This is clearly the latter with band giving a tightly focused high energy performance to an adoring crowd. Jackson is in a talkative mood, highlighted by the memorable line "This is where they grow the oxygen, isn't it?"
The last song "Late For The Sky" is unfortunately missing.
As a bonus we have included two songs from Karla Bonoff's opening set.

We have also included a handful of pictures from the show taken by Raoullopez and a friend of his which have also been used for the covers.

Big thanks to dime member "Raoullopez" for getting in touch and offering up this wonderful show from his 1st generation tape for all of us to enjoy.
