This was my first real post pandemic show after a bunch of cancellations either by the bands or me. Day starts with a 3AM thunderstorm and rain which had me up early. We need the rain but not the thunderstorms. I sort of fell back to sleep at 5 and awake at 6 to no power. No power means no shower or coffee until late morning which put me behind. As I packed up I put the pouch with the mics in my jacket pocket and got out the door to meet fellow taper Hoserama for an early pre-show tailgate party. All seemed good and we got to hear soundcheck where they practiced the Running on Empty into Gimme Some Lovin transition for awhile. It started pretty rough but they figured it out. Finally it was time to go in so I headed over to the entrance. Vaccine check, done, ticket scanned done and security done. Inside I start to set up and there are no mics. WTF? I thought they must be in the car so I tell security I left my inhaler in the car and they let me go out. I look through the car and nothing. This is not good. I message Hoserama and he has mics I can borrow and heads back to the cars. I get the mics and navigate vaccine check, ticket scan and security again and my clear bag with everything else is still on my seat under my jacket. I hook up the gear and am ready 10 minutes before the opener Leslie Mendelson. Her set was short and was pretty good. Five minutes later Jackson Browne comes on with his band. In typical Jackson Browne fashion you know how he feels about politics, race relations, the environment and wars without him being in people's faces about it. His version of Little Steven's I am a Patriot was amazing and was more patriotic than many of the wannabe patriots out there. The set was comprised of some new material and some older material all played well. Finally he starts Running on Empty and I was waiting to see if they were going to try the transition into Gimme Some Lovin. They did it and nailed it better than any version they practiced. Two encores followed ending the set with The Load-Out and Stay like one expects to see when going to a Jackson Browne show. Got home and sent the files to Hoserama for his mastering magic. He did a nice job on it. This was my last preseason show, now it's time to do it right next weekend. Just the basic taper requests here and please no vitriol: Don't be an ass by selling this or using it in a video that is sold Don't modify the info file Don't remaster and/or post on other sites that are not 100% free If shared keep info file intact but create a second file Don't convert to lossy formats except for personal use Do support the artists Get vaccinated so we can all experience live music safely less
