This is the fifth volume in a series which looks back at Jackson Browne's commercial albums by incorporating on-stage stories and radio interviews concerning the albums and their songs with selected live performances of each song in the original order from the album. In addition to the initial trip through the album, this volume includes alternate performances of 5 of the songs.

The album Running on Empty was the first of its kind--featuring all live performances of songs that had never been recorded--or heard by an audience--before the live recording was made. It’s an album painting a picture of life on the road for an up-and-coming band by a band that was actually on the road at the time. Some of the performances on this compilation were recorded before Running on Empty was commercially released and may have actually been considered for use by Jackson Browne at one time. A few others were recorded shortly after the album had been released.

The non-acoustic tracks were recorded from performances from 1977-1980 when the band was basically the group which was recorded on the Running on Empty album. At that time, the songs were played somewhat differently each time out. The tracks selected here are ones available that sound the closest to those on the commercial recording. The one exception is Nothing but Time, for which a good recording from that time period could not be found.

Most importantly: The intent of these volumes is to introduce you to Jackson Browne's albums or to renew your appreciation of them. All of Jackson's albums are still available, and hopefully if you don't have all of them or need new copies, this will encourage you to purchase them. They are available at Jackson's own web site (www.jacksonbrowne.com) and at Amazon.com.
