James Gang
late 1968 (possibly 1968-09-19*) _ Kent, Portage County, Ohio _ Kent State University _ WKSU** Studios _ (M?-FM)

<|><|> DimeTravel James Gang REMASTER Series Volume 1 <|><|>

01. Jeff's Boogie Jam

Total Time ::: 11:28

::: Ear-pleasing FM now somewhat improved. Check samples for ughs, oohs, ahhs.
::: Warts: Repaired dullspots & dropouts but surely missed a few. Minor dropout in 1st split sec fade-in only partially repaired.
::: *Date a long-shot guess. Tape said "late 1968". JG played KSU Student Union 1968-09-19 & maybe went on radio for promotion. Date fits&JG weren't at KSU again 'til May '69.
::: **Also a guess! Tape circulated as WMMS (Cleveland station) but 89.7 WKSU also reaches Cleveland. Tape said Kent State Univ. & possibly call letters were an error.
::: NOTE: Mk4 version. DimeTravel remaster of roryglzep's "Mk3" 2011-08-20 upgrade, pitch corrected by the honorable PervFesser goody.
::: COMPARISON CLAUSE: 2003 STG "Mk1" inferior version from JAJ (& roryglzep?) circulates & was reused in 2007 collections from burn1959 (& bpthree?).
::: CONTRAST CLAUSE: roryglzep's 2011-08-13 "Mk2" upgrade without the pitch correction is at www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=606137
::: Not a concert performance, but seems to be live in the radio studio.
::: Has riffs from Over Under Sideways Down/Think About It/I Feel Fine/Blackbird a.o. Song title a creation by bpthree.
::: Apologies for any errors on lineage and notes about different versions.
::: As per some prior notes, "If anybody knows more details about this session, & whether there was more of it, please..." let us know!

Recording Information ::: radio broadcast -> unknown recording equipment -> off-air master tape -> ? -> unknown generation Maxell UD reel @ 3&3/4IPS -> Akai GX-220D playback -> TASCAM CDRW-700 -> CD-R -> (wav) EAC (secure mode) -> (flac) Trader's Little Helper level 6 (align on sector boundaries) -> Downloaded 2011-08-xx -> TLH (WAV) -> Audition (Pitch Bender - 34 cents) -> TLH (FLAC Level 8, Sector boundaries aligned) -> 2011-08-20

Remastering 2018-04-01 ::: wav -> Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, pitch (speed) correction already done by goody, NO equalisation or noise reduction] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. Off-air tape (& likely the orig.brdcst tape) was MONO but was on 2 channel tape. After remastering&crosspatching, I used only the L channel with more high end. First uploaded 2018-04-07.

Line-up ::: Joe Walsh - electric guitar // Tom Kriss - electric bass // Jim Fox - drums.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 408 ::: Thanks to DIMERS bpthree(?), burn1959, roryglzep, goody for their trades, uploads & work & to kmr_78 for his reseed. ::: Corrections welcome ::: The only(?!?!?!) unofficially released curiousity to circulate by the James Gang from before 1970 which is hard to believe - too high to tape in Ohio & Michigan, or what? Let's hope we hear some more someday. Joe's already showing a lot of versatility. Too bad there isn't more but we gots to be happy with what we got. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
