In March 1971, James Taylor was on the cover of Time and featured as a key figure in an article titled New Rock: Bittersweet And Low. Melancholy has always been James Taylors friend and that label, Bittersweet and Low, perfectly sums up this Dallas stop in front of 3000 adoring fans at the State Fair Music Hall.

This was part of a 27-City U.S. tour with Carole King and Danny Kortchmars band, Jo Mama.

It seems to be an under-circulated show, complete with the only issue being ten seconds of tape drag during "Sweet Baby James". Captured relatively close to the stage using very good recording gear it does have a bit of hiss from the unknown generation but the hiss is within reason and does not interfere with an otherwise excellent show.

There don't seem to be too many 1971 shows in mass circulation, this is an excellent complete show. James tells a story of going to the doctor that day for a chest cold but this doesn't seem to affect his performance at all, it did make pitch adjusting slightly challenging.
We get James solo and with Jo Mama backing, there is a power outage during "Sweet Baby James" but is restored after a minute or so.
