JEMS loves vintage music and for this occasion we bring to all of you a true rarity.

For those of you who dont know the venue, the Main Point was not just a small coffeehouse, it wasn't just a "place", no, it was THE place, the place where so many singer-songwriters liked to perform, away from the big arenas and crowds, just to have a night of peace and tranquility in an intimate setting.

And that seems an apt description for this installment, as we present Janis Ian just after the release of her album Between the Lines, three songs from which are featured in this recording.

When Janis released Between the Lines she became a big deal and began a long tour promoting the album. This performance, however, seems to be before she even began said tour, because, apart from the concert taking place in the same month the album was released, is the fact she is backed by a small band (just Janis and basic accompaniment), in contrast to her later appearances featuring a more polished sound with greater accompaniment.

About the music: while we're not so sure how much of the broadcast and concert is missing on this tape (the first song fades in almost at the end), what is captured appears to be uncirculated and we are happy to release it to the masses. Samples provided.

As a bonus (as if a rare Janis recording wasn't enough), included at the end of the broadcast is a short back-announcement by a WMMR DJ noting Ians set is one half of a two-part Best of The Main Point special. The other part? The legendary Bruce Springsteen February 2, 1975 broadcast. Fortunately for all of you, JEMS released a beautiful upgrade to the second half of that show which can be found here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=366025

Special thanks to DIMEr gv0000, which helped identify the approximate date of this performance, as ERs cassette was only marked "Janis Ian at the Main Point. Speaking of ER, our friend Ethan, who supplied JEMS with so many great tapes, passed away unexpectedly last February. He loved seeing the response from fans to all the tapes he collected in the 70s. We miss him.

Finally, thanks to team JEMS for always coming with something new and fresh for me to post.
