Comments:

First stop on the fall 2011 leg of the Jayhawks' U.S. tour, this one was unfortunately rather forgettable. After the band's headlining appearance on one of the Summerfest stages July 4th (a show I really enjoyed), I had high hopes for this one, but it was both shorter and severely lacking in energy. It felt as though the band was going through the motions, though with the exception of some slowed-down arrangements of well-known songs (e.g. Blue), I can't really put my finger on the source of my disappointment when listening to the recording. I suppose a combination of body language and lack of banter gave me the impression the band didn't really want to be there; at exactly 90 minutes, they cut the show off and vanished. The song sequence made the show difficult as well -- they alternated back and forth between "hits" and tracks from the new album, which most in attendance had never heard; as a result, it felt like the show never really picked up any momentum.

I suppose I'm not doing much to promote downloads of this recording, but I came away disappointed. However, there are some positives that are worth mentioning -- the recording sounds excellent with the exception of some occasional audience chatter. Those who downloaded my Summerfest recording will find a similar sound here. Furthermore, most of the new material sounds good, although some of the songs (Tiny Arrows, Clifton Bridge) were awfully moody and slow-paced for a live setting. I'm coming around on the new album.

I'd appreciate any help on the song titles for D2T10 - this was a very strange song that had Marc set his guitar down, and worked the stage like a Vegas showman. It was "different."

If you are a completist, you'll probably want this recording; if you're a casual Jayhawks fan who is interested in checking out the newer material, this show is a good showcase for it. (Then go buy the CD!)

Mp3 samples are included in the comments.
