The artist / performance:

The Twin Tone and American Recording label stalwarts, The Jayhawks return to Los Angeles
seven months after their last show at The Fonda in January. The band, headed by Gary Louris,
is largely comprised of their 1997 touring lineup. They played many tunes from their 2003 (soon
to be classic) release "Rainy Day Music" as well as several new, yet to be relesed songs (seven
in total). The crowd was pretty respectful throughout with the exception of one asshole who
heckled Karen and Gary mercilessly. Gary attempts to put the guy in his place telling him that
he has no intention of playing Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." He later said that he was
done speaking to him. At some point, I think that the park's security escorted him out as he
was disrupting the show. Not to be deterred, the band still turned in a superb performance.

The recording...

The show's mix was fairly well balanced. Gary's SG and Tele came in pretty "hot" through the floor
speakers that I was positioned 12 feet in front of. Hence the minus. There is a small amount of "hiss"
that originated from the house speakers. All in all it's a very solid recording with little in the way
of chatter with the exception of the between song heckling.

Of note...

Gary does call for requests prior to "Tailspin" only to tell the audience that they would not be playing
any. Too funny! "Settled Down Like Rain" appears on the set list alongside "9 More Days". However, it was
not played.
