Interesting lineup for the first day of the Sausalito Art and Wine Festival. First
off Tom Constanten, followed by Jazz is Dead (a Grateful Dead cover band with a jazz
sound) with Tom Constanten. This was followed by Quicksilver which had no original
members due to a recent stroke that hit David Freiberg. Dino Valenti's son took his
dad's role with vocals. Last up, Jefferson Starship with Paul Kantner the remaining
original member. It was a beautiful day and a fun day of music, although not really
the real thing. TC performing Dark Star->Lovelight was worth the price of admission.
One thing I did notice was Paul Kantner is looking very frail. He
spent a lot of time seated on his amp or taking breaks to smoke cigarettes. It has
been years since I had seen him so glad I was there. Dan Healy was the mc and sound
engineer. He looked and sounded good which was nice to see. The Starship set ended
with Chyna Kantner and David Freiberg's daughters joining for backup vocals. It was
a nice ending.
