Jamie, Gabe and Stacey played their last show as that current JMP at the Knitting Factory in NYC in late December of 1997. To ring in the New Year right, Jamie got a new crew together to form a tour of change, a waylay in the middle. The "Tour de Flux" was born, an 8 week adventure of intense rehearsing, jaunting across the country.
Thanks to Ron Taylor for sending me his tape. Here's what he remembers about the show:-
"One thing that really sticks out in my mind while I listen to that show is that Jamie's going on about how they were stuck at Fish's house during a blizzard and all they did was jam and work on music... after hearing that (and being that it was cold outside) I have this perception that the music does have this wintery feel to it. I can almost sense the feeling of having nowhere to go and that nobody was around... I personally seek comfort in that sort of situation. Upon hearing that you get transfixed in what they may have been feeling writing this music together... and since it was a pretty intimate show it was very easy to feel that way. The venue it was held in is usually a standing room only place... but, for this show there were these green plastic lawn chairs. I have been to this venue many times and it was different sitting down in there... they since have added a balcony w/ bar stools, etc. It was definately, an interesting night..To this day I still feel the same way.. the music doesn't go very well with a nice hot summer day for me."
