comments:
The only Ponty show I've heard with 3 encore breaks in it,
thus maybe a shorter show than some on this tour. Performance
is okay in the early part, then heats up. I don't care for this
new material very much, but an upload by bgreen of Ponty 79 & 80
in NYC here on dime inspired me to put this one on disc for the
first time. I broke it up this way in case you wish to make a 3
disc set out of the Boston Ponty 79 and 80 shows, just as I did
with the NYC ones. (80 is a seperate torrent) There is 1 flip cut
in Egocentric Molecules (I just can't seem to get that song uncut),
I think everything else is here.) It was done with my mikes and
deck, but I did not see this tour. (guess I needed more than just
a taste of passion in 1979). The recording came out pretty well,
a few knocks and similar minor problems but nothing too disturbing.
I did some ICPVR (individual clap peak volume reduction) on this,
particularly to reduce the loudest claps and a few bumps and clunks,
but not as thoroughly as with some recordings I've upped. Sounds like
it was recorded from a decent seat, a fair amount of crowd noise
(but not overwhelming) and an enthusiastic crowd. Ralph does some
hot stuff here in Egocentric Molecules.
I guess the guy who recorded this didn't care much for the newer
material in this tour either, since he gave me the master tape. But
much like me and many others, he does like Ponty and said he liked
the show. He's never been much into audience recordings of anyone,
and I've known many people who feel that way, some so much they pass
up ones just as good in my opinion as FM or sbd quality sound. This
isn't that good, but having listened to it remastering it, I think
some folks will enjoy hearing it, so here it is. Enjoy.
