(both the source of this tape and I believe this is the 2nd show)
performance quality: B+ (maybe even better, pretty good inspired performance here)
recording quality: C+ to B- at times close to a B
(not too bad for 71 aud, a little tape noise, sounds like there may also be
vinyl in this lineage but not sure of that. It's not real clean, not too bad either and
there are some sounds that could be "needle-noise" or perhaps a dusty record/tape head
surface in the transfer of the copy I have of this or a previous transfer of it,
it's definitely noticable, but not overbearing.
It does not sound "generated" to my fairly fussy ears (or I wouldn't post it.)
I find it enjoyable, but probably not the "definitive' copy of this recording.
source: unknown lineage tape (a loaner- not a loner)
total runtime: 76:08
setlist:
1: going down
2: ice cream cakes
3: tonight I'll be staying here with you
4: Jeff's boogie (a long one, almost 15 min.)
5: morning dew
6: ? spliced (features Bob and Jeff, slow bluesy song)
7: I've been used
8: got the feeling
9: situation

thanks once again to stratcat58 for providing this recording.
this dime thing really is a team effort alot of the time with uploading.
Alot of people have helped make my uploads
better/more accurate info/setlists/name spellings, ect.
this is appreciated by glasnostrd19 Thank all of you for that.
Nobody wants to have their naime misspelled.
(I did that one intentionally, just to see if you're all paying attention.)

comments:
another fine set here, a little longer one than my previous 71 Beck post
from the day after this in Boston. (I know, backwards sequential order,
must be a glasnostrd19 upload.) Bob mentions near the end of this they're headed to
Boston tomorrow and they've had a really good time playing in NY again.
(no mention of the "next' NY show, so I think this is late show and a good one.)
This is one of 5 recordings I have been loaned by stratcat58 for (possible) upload,
and this is the only one of them with less than enjoyable sound quality (for some),
and unknown lineage. (He says this one has often been circulated with an incorrect date of
November 16th). 3 of them have been posted already (Bruford N.J. 80, Beck C.C.C 80,
and most recently, Maha. Phila. 1972. Apparently you people like strat's seeds too.)
This is not that far off my Boston 71 JBG for sound quality, a little more lineage perhaps
and still (damnit!) no Definitely Maybe or Highways! (my 2 favorite JBG songs).
Don't they ever play those? I could have sworn they did 1 of them when I saw, but that was
also 2 shows in Boston. I'm not sure, but I think I have (posted) the Boston late show too,
because I saw the early show, 1st rock concert I ever saw, just a little kid, it was a great
time but they definitely (maybe?) played definitely maybe! Maybe even highways too!
My recording doesn't have those, even though we think it is the whole show, as we think this is.
But that's about it for the complaints here. It's a nice show, glad to be in NYC,
nice long Jeff's Boogie here (longest I've heard), inspired show throughout
and the quality is pretty consistent, decent presence, just not quite as clean as
glasnostrd19 is accustomed, but if I can listen to this and enjoy it (I can and did)
and stratter wants to hear this posted (I think he does, I requested this because
it's the JBG and they're one of my favorites of Beckness), it's worth a posting.
Track 6 may just be a long lead in to I've been used but I think not, so it's another
track, don't know what it's called. Sounds like it could be a lead in to morning dew if
it was before that but it's after. I don't know if the concert wound up with "situation"
that seems a bit unusual to me, but that was the last song in my recording. Not a problem,
I like that song especially live and a good version here. lots of songs to like on the
"Jeff Beck Group" and "Rough and Ready" albums, which were the majority of music played
both here and in Boston a couple of days later. Some of my favorite Jeff Beck on there.
The recording itself is not bad at all, not too loud crowd (even though it was a loud
enthusiastic NYC crowd) and the taper was fairly close up, you can hear all the singing,
between song stage talk and instruments pretty well.
stratter says that Beck played 2 shows Nov. 5, 2 more Nov. 6, 1971 at Academy of Music,
so if anyone's got any of the others, this is the only one I have. the group seemed to
all be in a good playing mood at this stage of this tour and sounding tight and together.
do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
(This thing's lost enough already)
