comments:
This is basically an attempt to fill a request made of me by a couple of rather serious Beckhead
friends of mine (I know a few of those) starting not long after this concert. Obviously I may be
very too late for at least one of them but I think basscase2 will appreciate hearing this one.
(one or two of his shares may have been heard before here on the dime, and hopefully more will be.
He has some good shows from the 70's including a couple with Beck, he loves Jeff of any kind at all)
At least one fellow who saw it said it was a hot show. I hadn't heard it at all until finding a fellow
dimer who had a tape (isn't dime great for things like that, finding a certain show you've wanted?)
So thanks to stratcat58 for providing his copy of this for me to remaster and post. I had hoped I would
be able to post all the Mass. 1980 Beck shows, since there were just 2 of them (the other is Amherst,
Oct. 9, one of my 1st posts to dime and still available/seeded, if it's not message me and I'll seed it)
This sounds close to complete, star cycle cuts in slightly but it's a decent recording, just a couple
of rather abrupt edits had to be smoothed out but I did that and it's a pretty enjoyable listen now.
So enjoy it, all you Beckheads. I may not have 7,145 Beck recordings (as a few might), but I like to
have a few good Jeff Beck shows to listen to when I get in the mood for a good rock guitar. This show
qualifies for that. I guess it's not a real common one since most of Jeff's other Mass. shows seem to
be rather widely circulated. (including Boston 76 concert, which has some songs used for live Jan
Hammer/Jeff Beck album). I guess Beck must like playing here, although odd that there is no Boston
1980 concert date for him (I've never heard of either a concert, recording, or date for Boston 80
Beck show) since Boston is usually a regular stop on a Beck tour (and a good one too). As far as I know,
Amherst and Cape Cod were Jeff's only Mass. shows on this tour, and comments on the Amherst post further
affirm that. This is not quite as good sound as the Amherst one, but is is still quite enjoyable. I told
him before he sent me this, I'll be happy to remaster it but will only post if not "generated" sounding
and decent quality sound. I'd say this is pretty decent, so here it is, probably not for the first time,
but it is my first posting of this concert and I'm happy to share it. If someone with maybe 2500 Beck shows
wanted this concert, there must be a reason (he's a Beckoholic, from Toronto, Ontario, never can get enough
Jeff). He's probably got this by now, but if not, and for anyone else who doesn't have this show, here you go.
The Cape Cod Coliseum hosted some good shows, but I don't think there's been one there in many years even though
it's still there, mainly used now for youth hockey, I believe. Much like the (old) Boston Garden, it was
famous for terrible air circulation (like, none) which could get very uncomfortably hot in summer shows
(and most CCC shows I remember were summer shows.) Maybe that's why we don't hear much any more about
concerts there. (even in Boston/metro area).
this recording is essentially seamless, I've suggested as I have for my copy of this concert, to start disc 2 with
track 9, since that's the tape flip and I spliced in some applause w/fadeout to make track 8 end unabruptly,
although there are some other good options if you prefer instead. The taper of this sounds like they didn't
have a fabulous recorder, but probably a little bit better than a Sony 310 w/built in mikes, and they did a
good job making the recording so thanks for that, whoever recorded this (unknown to both myself and the source
of this copy, stratcat58.)
Do not sell this recording.
Trade freely and losslessly.
