rockin' the "hob" Modified Version
Jeff Beck
House of Blues (we think?)
New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.
March 3, 2001

Request by glasnostrd19

ORIGINAL NOTES:

performance quality: A- pretty hot playing here
recording quality: D to maybe at best C- (sounds like 1951, worst mikes i've ever heard)
if you don't totally have beck on the brain you don't want to hear this recording.
source: mashed-ter audience tape (craster? this one is no prize, but it's a rare Beck show)
runtime: 83:03
lineage: the world's very ultra-lowest fidelity ever produced cassette recorder >
CD Power 110 minute cassette >
soundforge 4.5 (in this case the forge really was to try and "forge" some sound) >
FLAC 6 > torrentially yours.
If you like the sound of this one, you are a certified Beck NUT. (for life)
And I'm posting this, mainly because there are alot of those. I know a few.
Stratcat58, you're far from alone in your beckitude. (very far, apparently)

MODIFIED NOTES:

MARCH 29, 2008-
Complete recording was spectrally enhanced by several methods in Wavelab. This recording is a rocker now. This is one of those deals where you have good enough signal to noise ratio to work with. I am not saying that I performed a miracle, but sometimes we get lucky. I asked glasnostrd19 if I could post.

Enjoy!! Hildie aka William

Original comments:
all I can say about this (besides a hot and rare beck show) is have you ever heard the sound
of a rat's tail whacking against the inside of a trash can lined with a baggie-like trash bag?
If you live in large city or DL this show you will become very familiar with that sound.
It's called "cymbals", and if you ever wondered how people like me could listen to cheesy ROIO's
of Billy Cobham playing one word, I've never heard one sound this terrible. (planned obsolescence
hadn't gotten that bad yet even in 1971) It actually sounds almost normal (for 1965) in parts of this,
This is from 2001, but it sure doesn't sound like anywhere near this century. (the music does, not
the sound quality). glasnostrd19's litter has a new runt. I pray (seriously) that I never post anything
of quality like this again, but it's Jeff Beck, by request for stratcat58 and recording provided by same,
maybe he'd rather I not say that this time, but he's been good to us with both Maha and Jeff Beck
and we appreciate all his efforts to help out the share of hot music (including this one)...
Imagine if you will a rat's tail whacking a plastic baggie-lined garbage can. If you hear this you
will hear that sound alot, so get used to it. I think it's called drummer hitting cymbals....
Stratcat says the main problem with this recording is the seat location (alot of crowd noise, to be
expected at a fairly small club Beck show with Jeff having a hot time). Unfortunately the biggest problem
with this recording is a frequency response range of about 500-1000 hz. Not much more than that in here.
I have to consider that stratcat58 is a real (not imitation/wannabee) Beckhead, and I respect that.
So take a trip, into the House of Blues, and to a time LONG before Jeff Beck was born, that the
tape recorder (wire recorder?) that made this recording was new. Must be a serious museum piece by now.
this is supposed to be a master tape, and it probably is, but honestly, if Kurt Cobain heard this, I
bet he'd throw it out (even if it was Nirvana). Beckhead? probably not. thus this post. Jeff Beck
fans are as fanatical as Red Sox fans, and that's serious. they never have enough Jeff. So here's
some Jeff few other than glasnostrd19 would ever share on the dime or anywhere else.
i have little choice, since almost half my friends have this Beck condition. And I understand it
at least somewhat. Jeff Beck rocks, most of the time. He does here, no doubt about that. I think this
is essentially the complete show, just a couple of songs cut and not much missing at all (except the fidelity).
do not sell this recording.
anyone who would buy this recording has had a beckotomy. (done incorrectly)
Trade freely and losslessly.
(although if you recorded this one in MP.14,
I don't think anyone would notice any difference in sound quality anyway)
