Gig Notes:

Though I saw Jeff playing Glasgow last year, I didn't intend going to this show, but it would have been rude to turn down a free ticket. I was half expecting the same set list as last year, with only a few changes. How wrong I was and quite enjoyed the set. His backing band were excellent, unsurprisingly and everybody put on a great show.

Support band was Trombone Shorty, but they had finished playing by the time I got into the venue. However, he and his sax player came onstage for I Want To Take You Higher.

Thanks to my mate Derek for the setlist.

Recording notes and sound quality:

The volume had to be boosted considerably and there were a number of reasons for this. 1) I was at the back of the stalls (in the middle) 2) though the pre-amp was at max gain, I always leave the R09 at unity (12/13) 3) The PA volume was pretty low in the first place - there would have been no chance of having ringing ears after this gig! Consequently, the applause was generally louder than the music, so I have compressed the applause, in order to be able to boost the volume. No eq was applied.

There were a few noises around me, though things were not too bad, given that many of Jeff's songs are pretty quiet. The usual bit of chat here and there, the odd cough, and the odd plastic cup being stood upon. Worst of all are the eejits who have a digital camera, but don't think to silence the stupid beeps and "imitation" shutter clicks. Obviously they were not taping the gig. :-)
