From Washington, it was up and over to Providence, with a stop at New Haven's renowned Toad's Place, where I saw Jeff for the fourth (and sadly, final) time, and was able to meet him after the show. Sadly no recording has surfaced to date from that night, so my memories will have to suffice.
The news for the next performances is much better. After a day off, the band arrived at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, Rich Lupo's acclaimed club still turning them away 50 years after its open. We have two recordings from this night. I've uploaded an upgrade to the video show already, and here is the audio recording twice-removed from the master with known lineage. We don't know the taper: they're only identified as a Radiohead fan, but it's a great capture of a solid show.
This is not the audio from the DVD - it's an entirely different source; well-balanced and complete. The only fault is is the screaming audience members close to the taper. But Jeff's handling of them is pretty funny in and of itself.
It's a relatively short set. Jeff was the opener and probably on a schedule as, in the video, you can see him check his watch occasionally.
I got this from the original Dime upload in 2006 by notorious former Buckley trader NewHomeBrew, about whom the less said the better. I fixed the SBEs in xAct, but otherwise it is the same upload.
NewHomeBrew's 2006 Upload notes:
--------------------------------
Thanks to Randy B for loaning out his precious tape [ED NOTE: wonder. If he got that back or if it disappeared with NHB!] "Short opening set for Juliana Hatfield. Jeff flicks off a member
of the audience before Last Goodbye. To calm the rowdy crowd, Jeff sings the soft All That I Ask before Kanga-Roo."
