September 18, 1992

Taper: Claudia S.
Lineage: master cassette (Maxell XL-II 90) > Pioneer playback deck > Adobe Audition 1.5 (NR, EQ, limiting, track edits) > TLH (SBE fix, flac 8)

Recorded by my friend Rob' mom Claudia with that tape recorder he and I used throughout the 90's. Melody Fair was a small theater that was built for an "in the round" setup, with a revolving stage. Jeff is actually the only performer that I ever saw there that didn't allow the stage to turn, most likely because he would be helplessly disoriented because he was blind. Imagine going to leave the stage and the catwalk wasn't where you left it. The sound in Melody Fair was pretty much the same wherever you went, which was good for tapers. It was a bit echoey because the place was round and had a domed ceiling, but it was small, so it's not too bad. There's a bit of hiss on this tape because the tape ran out on both sides and didn't give me an accurate noise sample (I usually use the spot left when you shut off the recorder and there's a pair of clicks. this leaves a sample of the noise laid down by the erase head before the tape reaches the play head), but it's not at all annoying. A very informal show with lots of talk between Jeff and the audience and a lot of loose jamming.
