Ah, Paris... The bustle of the Metro, the street cafe culture, the je ne sais quoi... And Le Bataclan, a 19th century buildingwith numerous uses over the years. A large downstairs (tonight with the retractable fixed seating in position (unlike the band's show here in 2000 where the downstairs was general admission standing), and an upstairs horseshoe-shaped balcony that's closed tonight. There's a sudden real;isation mid-afternoon that the online seating chart has been selling seats on the whole of the ground floor - including seats that aren't there because the substantial soundboard is taking up a significant floorspace. There's a hasty laying out of chairs on the raised level behind the soundboard to accommodate the punters. Something very Parisian about selling seats that aren't there, shrugging your shoulders and just creating them elsewhere. It's a fine crowd, and there are few seats to spare. Sketches, Hyperdrive, Cowboy On The Run, Cathy's Beautiful Girl - it's a show packed with ballads, but it also rocks hard, in between bouts of halting French from the band (and a declaration of love for les fromages de la belle France). There's a moving Imagine/Redemption and we get to dance home with the Other Side. Capital show! :-)
As a bonus we also have about 21 minutes of material from the soundcheck - some songs, some noodling and jamming, Cathy playing drums, all human life is present.
