Total Time ::: 1:06:25

::: Very fine quality & a great improvement on commonly circulating versions. Check samples for flight or fancy.
::: Warts: Repaired or lessened many dropouts & dullpots, but some remain. 1 or 2 short spots slightly tape fatigued (like the start of #18).
::: Old cover art not included as it has copyrighted photos from legitimate releases & track numbers no longer match.
::: Jesse's pre-song title announcements tracked separately (odd numbers) for music-only listening. They can be placed in a different folder.
::: Partial take fragments (#6 & #12) can also be omitted for more enjoyable listening.
::: This is a remastered version of the Dandelion DL 120 (1999) "Demo Tapes" boot CD.
::: These trax also issued on another boot CD called "Early Demos".
::: "Private Blend" is a lyric phrase from Jesse's song "Twigs & Seeds" & seemed a fitting enough title for this remaster.
::: If you ain't got Jesse's 1970 self-titled masterpiece of a debut album (produced by Robbie Robertson), check it out.

Recording Information ::: unknown mono recording equipment -> master tape -> ? -> Dandelion DL 120 (1999) "Demo Tapes" boot CD -> EAC -> flacs.

Playback 2016-02-xx ::: flacs -> TLH -> wavs -> Audacity [fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, various pitch (speed) fixes between +4.2 & +5.4% with single pass per segment after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation] -> CD Wave (track splits) -> flacs (Trader's Little Helper) -> yr ears. First uploaded week of 2016-03-05.

Line-up :::Jesse Winchester - acoustic & electric guitars, vocals.

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

DimeTravel 282 ::: Thanks to the original uploader of the boot which I remastered from, JTT, who's given a LOT to the taper community. ::: Corrections welcome ::: I got this on cassette way back when & it was very cool to hear so many astonishingly well-written songs in one place. While somewhat flat sounding with long pauses between many of the trax, it had a pretty cool minimalist vibe. However, there was sommething a bit off-putting about it. I downloaded this boot version a few years ago & wasn't sure it was much different in quality, but it still just wasn't very satisfactory. I tried to listen to it again recently & realised it was very off speed - it averaged about 4% slow which takes the life out of almost any recording. I didn't use an average but corrected pitch thruout. Someone's reel machine was changing pitch, plus I suspect some trax were added in By Jesse from a second reel source, or not all taped on the same machine. While I was at it, I put in much more measured times between trax, numbered title announcements so they can be omitted during playback, massaged erratic levels, and worked on some hundreds of dropouts & dullspots (tho' many were a challenge & it ain't perfect). Purists be aware that I've spliced out a messed up line of vocals in "Pretty Lilly" that were repeated by Jesse. It's inaudible & sounds much better.

Exact details surrounding these recordings are unknown, but they are from the late sixties (very likely 1969) & recorded in Canada, where Winchester had fled to avoid the military draft. As noted on http://ramone666.blogspot.de/2008/12/jesses-early-demos.html the liner notes to his 1970 debut album "Jesse Winchester" mention his having, "worked on some demos in 69 at U.S. Army deserter Chuck Grays home studio in Ottawa. A friend of Jesses girlfriend at the time allegedly passed these on to Robertson. The 29 songs on 'Early Demos' could very well stem from that session". Robertson was very impressed & helped Jesse find a real home for his songs. Jesse's first album was produced by Robbie & 8 out of the 11 songs appear in early stripped down form on these demos. A number of the other demo songs here were re-recorded by Jesse for later albums. Listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. Yrs truly, Knees
