This was never likely to be a hi-fi recording. The acoustic in St Albans Abbey
is fantastic for choral music, and the organ sounds fantastic if you sit in the
choir area. It is not fantastic for rock, although it will have been better from
the very back where I was standing than in the middle where the reverbaration gives
a very tangled sound to many orchestral concerts I have been to there.
However I was lucky to get a recording at all since my primary purpose at the concert
was to sell beer from one of the side bars. This is the reason why I unfortunately
failed to record the start of the second set.
It's not often you get the opportunity to listen to rock music and drink real ale in
St Albans Abbey, and the atmosphere was really good.
Unfortunately despite the missing track and the fact that I cut the prayer bits and the
Lloyd Grossman narrative which I thought spoilt the continuity, it still longer than a
single CD length. If you decide to burn a copy you get a disk with a definite christmas
theme and one without. I missed most of one of his narritives anyway as it followed the
second set opener, and you still get him singing on the next song.
Usual deal, please don't try to make any money from this recording. Enjoy!
