Notes: Cassette #399 features a March 19, 1983 set of performances by Jim & Jesse McReynolds and The Virginia Boys, recorded at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, IL. A marvelous cross-section of some of Jim & Jesse's best songs are featured. Jesse gives a master class in mandolin cross-picking, and Jim and Jesse harmonize together like no others. The fidelity of the recording is nice and full, but alas, there are cuts between each track that rid the recording of any between song banter, undermines our ability to gain any knowledge of the band members, and which makes for a somewhat jarring listening experience.
