Notes: OK, I'll go ahead and vote this the most ridiculous upload on the history of DIME! But wait, for Hendrix nuts (like me) you may find some value here! Monterey was Jimi's breakthrough performance in the United States, the show he famously punctuated by squirting lighter fluid on his guitar, then smashing it to bits. All the official releases fade out at the end of Wild Thing. This raw soundboard gives us another 90 seconds in which we hear people in the pit talking about what they just witnessed. "He did it one better!" one guy says, I assume in reference to The Who show earlier in which Pete Townsend smashed his guitar, but didn't light it on fire! He then says "Yay Johnny!" Did he mean "Jimi?" The guy also mentions something about almost being squirted by the lighter fluid (I'm guessing they were right in front of Jimi) but his pal says "I can't hear you." Maybe his ears were ringing a bit! The main character then tells a roadie to give a kid the "oil can" Jimi used. I'm guessing some fan was asking for it. I think the can is finally handed over. I bet that would fetch a pretty penny today!!
The tape I have is followed by a short workout of Are You Experienced, so I left that on. Not sure if this is part of the more common outtakes that are out there.
