Taper Heiner B. from Frth contacted me a few weeks ago through my blog about Jimi Hendrix in Germany. He had read that there was a recording from Nuremberg and mentioned he had also recorded the show and wouldnt it be possible today to mix the two version together to enhance the sound quality? Sure, send me a sample and well see what we can do! As it turned out, the show he had recorded was not the already circulating first show, but instead the second show, of which so far no recording had been known to exist. Wow. I even became more excited when Heiner sent me the tracklist. All Along the Watchtower, Little Wing....what more can you ask for? The first samples he sent assured that the sound quality was not too bad for 1969. Actually pretty balanced, if still a bit rough, but we Jimi nuts have heard much worse tapes, havent we? This comes straight from the master. The files I got were song seperated and some of the banter is overlapping from track to track. I opted to leave the files as original as possible. I only removed a few clicks and did some minor volume adjustments on the opening of Fire. The rest I leave up to anyone else, especially the remastering wizards here on DIME. Heiner B. was 16 at the time and used a Telefunken Magentophon 301 with the standard microphone included to capture this show. He readjusted the recording volume for most starts of the tracks and sometimes also boosted bewteen songs to capture Jimi talking a bit louder. I also left those volume changes untouched. If anyone wants to equalize the show I suggest 3-4 db around the 4-5 kH area, which clears up the sound quite a bit. I have done that for my personal entertainment, but I did not want to do it with these files.

It becomes clear right from the start that Jimi is in top form for this show. Very explorative solos, endings of songs that I have never heard like this elsewhere, a very good and spirited performance. I am curious for your comments and show reviews for this one!

Heiner B. is very happy to share this with the world. He will be watching this torrent develop and you can even contact him personally to thank him! His user name is (surprise, surprise) "heinerb".

PS: he is still looking for his recording of Pink Floyd in Nurmeberg so all you Floyd nuts, stay tuned!
