I recently rediscovered this cassette that I'd recorded many years ago. In fact, this was the second live recording I made. I used a "portable" JVC cassette deck that was about half the size of a component deck and took 8 D-Cell batteries. But it had proper RCA lines in and out and adjustable recording levels, so I was delighted to have this as my first deck. For those of you who know me, this is the infamous "Pizza Deck" before it got that nickname.

I have no idea whose mikes I was patched out of (or what they were.)

There are a few flaws in this recording. For the first half of fly away, the recording levels were set so low that the recording wasn't really listenable. I wasn't sure if I should keep that bit or not, but decided to cut the song into two tracks so people have the option of skipping to the part of the song where the levels are better.

I think I've got the setlist correct except for track 08. I've done my best to figure out the band based on what Joan announced from stage.

For those of you wondering what this music sounds like, it is blues rock in the style of Joan Osborne's "Early Recordings" album. It sounds much more rock and roll than most of her career after getting signed to a major label and releasing Relish.

The recording of this show is decent, but the performance is awesome. I love the jams here. There were a lot of tapers there that night, so its likely that there is a better copy of this somewhere. It is also likely that there are some great recordings of older gigs. But in the years of searching since then, I haven't come across a Joan Osborne recording this old. I believe that when I upload this recording to the internet, it'll be the oldest Joan Osborne recording circulating. Please, prove me wrong! I'd love to get some more Joan Osborne Band music. If you have some, please share it.
