Notes:

I had been looking forward to seeing Jocie Adams of 'The Low Anthem' for several weeks, and nor was i at all disappointed. She is an amazing talent, with incredible vocals, and from what i could discern, a beautiful and amazing person. Lucky are they who call her friend. A little over half the songs are from her LP 'Bed Of Notions', released earlier this year, a few were quite new and the others i wasn't really sure. There were maybe around 40-50 persons in attendance, at least those who were gathered up near the stage. I did not really pay attention to anyone else in the venue. There is chatter most evident in the first several songs (particularly the first half of track #6), less so in the rest of the tracks. I did not feel it intruded too greatly on the music, but i have forgiving ears. There was also this static/hiss that is evident on a portion of the recording, but it was coming from the venue or off the stage, i couldn't really tell, but i did notice immediately when it suddenly stopped.

The worst aspect of this recording, and it must be stated, is that there was music or another band coming from elsewhere in the venue, i believe off to the right if facing the stage. It starts around midway through the set and is more or less apparent in the recording depending on how loud this other music was and on how loud Jocie and her band was. It is definitely evident especially when listening through headphones. In fact, several in the audience around me were clearly annoyed, and Jocie herself makes a few comments about this intrusive music. I will think twice about seeing a performance at The Met in future, unless this outside music intrusion was a one-time occurence. I don't know.

In addition, i had thought that my levels were set right, but as i came to find out, they were set too high during those moments when Jocie's vocals were high. I edited/fixed the most egregious moments in the recording in Adobe Audition employing a very light usage of the 'clip restoration' function, and found that the sound/music in those moments was definitely improved. If it wasn't too present, i just left it as is, as you will clearly hear in the recording. All in all, it was mostly used in two or three tracks, and then once or twice in other tracks where the levels peaked. I did the best i could, i am no audio genius.

Regarding the performers, Jocie was on stage for every song (of course), as was Martha Guenther, and Michael Irwin i believe for all but maybe one or possibly two songs. I didn't catch the last name of the Banjo player, and i am not certain of the bass player, who i don't recall playing on that many songs. For 'Hobos & Gamblers' everyone was on stage, including the members of the band 'Tallahassee', who preceded Jocie, and who followed 'The Loom'.

I look forward to seeing Jocie Adams when next she performs in the area, and hopefully manage a better capture. Enjoy.
