John Abercrombie is one of the world's foremost jazz guitarists. Multi-instumentalist Don Thompson (known mostly for bass, piano and bives) is one of the greatest musicians Canada has ever produced. Added together, their careers total almost a century, and they have played with most of the jazz greats of the last 50 years. John and Don have made music together for almost 30 years and their album, "A Beautiful Friendship", won a Juno Award (Canada's equivalent to the Grammy Award) in 1984.
CBC Radio 2 recorded them playing as a duo - on guitar and bass - in the intimate setting of Chalker's Pub at York University in North York on a bitterly cold January evening. Their music is sublime.
